June 2026 Postcard

Are we excited about the World Cup coming to Canada? Absolutely. Stefanie was born in the iconic soccer year of 1974 or, as her grape-growing dad liked to say, “Vintage ’74 wasn’t a great one, but at least we (Germany) won the World Cup!” So yes, there’s a passion here for grapes – and a little soccer madness too.

Get your team ready for the upcoming World Cup with a little wine-and-soccer fun. The package below (for $ 292 + tax) is available only while Team Canada remains in the tournament, so let’s hope they make the final!

PS: It also makes a great Father’s Day gift.

The WORLD CUP 2026 package contains one bottle each of:

THE ATTACK

  1. Primary Striker: Riesling 2024, tall, flexible, continuously searching, dribbles
  2. Right Winger: Cider barrique, always ready, creative
  3. Left Winger: Cider medium dry, athletic & playful

THE MIDFIELD

  1. Central Midfield: Confidence, bubbly, acts as a link between defense and attack
  2. Right Midfield: Blanc de Noir 2025, attacks, controls and delivers
  3. Left Midfield: Pinot Meunier Rosé 2025, primary playmaker, takes risks

THE DEFENCE

  1. Stopper: RedOne 2025, the stopper and the player
  2. Centre Back: Integrity 2025, communicates positioning, provides a way to relieve pressure and sets up new play
  3. Right Fullback: Syrah 2022, the bedrock and defense, but also distributor
  4. Left Fullback: Pinot Noir 2023, delivers plays, can be both offensive & defensive

THE GOALKEEPER

  1. Goalkeeper: Fortitude (Port style) the final line, keeps composure in high stake moments
  2. An extra bottle of Confidence for the bench or cheering squad—because everyone appreciates a little more confidence

PS: These soccer player descriptions are just for fun and aren’t part of any FIFA rulebook. Fair play, as always.

All wines are grown on our home turf in British Columbia. Every World Cup wine case includes one exclusive 8th GEN mini soccer-themed “Lucky Charm” to bring your team a little extra luck.︎

GEN Z SOCCER 101 – back to wine 101 next month

Understand soccer’s most confusing rule in just one minute: a simple explanation of offside.

The soccer offside rule prevents attackers from “camping” out behind the last defender to cherry-pick easy goals.

An attacking player is offside if they are in the opponent’s half and closer to the goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender at the exact moment the ball is passed to.

The rule is easiest to understand when broken down by its core mechanics:

  • The Vibe Check: You only get flagged if you are actively involved in the play. Just standing in an offside position isn’t a violation unless the ball is passed to you or you block the goalie’s vision.
  • The “Second-to-Last” Logic: Usually, the defending goalkeeper is the last person back. Therefore, the rule typically requires you to have at least two defenders (the goalie + one outfield player) between you and the goal when the ball is kicked to you.
  • BUT Timing is Everything: It only matters where your body is the exact millisecond the ball is passed, not when you actually receive it. If you time your run correctly, you can sprint past the defender as the ball is travelling.
  • The Exceptions: You can never be offside on your own half of the field. Additionally, you are 100% exempt from offside if you receive the ball directly from a throw-in, corner kick, or goal kick.
