May 2026 Postcard

Now is the perfect time to replenish your Okanagan wine collection. The current releases are out (Riesling 2025 & Cider 2025 will be released in mid-June). Availability is still strong, and many are featured in the tasting lineup.

Over the past two weeks, the vineyards have taken on a soft green glow. New shoots are appearing on all varieties, and Bernd and his two helpers are already working through their fifth vineyard task of the year.

A full day of steady rain refreshed the entire landscape. Even with irrigation systems such as drip lines or overhead sprinklers, nothing matches the effect of natural rainfall.

Generation Z Wine 101

How can we make three different wine styles from one variety?

Spotlight: Pinot Meunier

The juice from nearly all wine grapes is clear; colour and tannins come from the skins.

  • Pinot Meunier Rosé: The juice stays in contact with the red skins for 24 hours. Once it turns pink, it is pressed off the skins and fermented like a white wine. Made in a medium-dry style, it produces a fresh, fruit-forward wine.
  • Blanc de Noirs: The red grapes are loaded into the press, where juice drains off naturally (not turning the press on yet). That “free-run-juice” is used entirely for our white style Blanc de Noirs. Because it never sits on the skins, the wine remains white. Fermented to a dry style, it develops a crisp, flavourful, and intense profile.
  • But what happens to the grapes left in the press?
  • It gets pressed and added to the Confidence frizzante. Because this portion has a higher skin-to-juice ratio, it adds extra intensity to the wine. After the Confidence is fermented and filtered, it is transferred to a pressure tank and injected with CO2 for several months to create the fine bubbles our frizzante is known for.

One variety, crafted by the winemaker in three distinct ways. These Pinot Meunier grapes could also be made into a traditional red wine, although that is something we have not explored yet.
