WHY IT EXISTS: Fortitude is one wine released as four numbered batches, each resting longer in French oak than the last, each bottling a time capsule of what the barrels held at that moment. Batch No. 3 spent 45 months in barrique. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon wine fortified with distilled Merlot, and named for the family virtue that survived phylloxera. Winery exclusive: you can only get it here.
IN THE GLASS: Rich raisin, dark cherry coulis, ripe fig, dark plum dominate while candied orange zest and subtle hints of coco nibs round out this batch.
AT THE TABLE: Blue cheese, dark chocolate, a fire, and no particular hurry. Serve at 16–18°C.
